At the annual Scottish Hotel Awards, the "Oscars" of the profession, "The New County Hotel and Opus One Restaurant" carried off the Gold Laurel National Award for modern fine dining. General Manager Jalal Al-Ibrahimi was presented with the Hotel Manager "Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Management" and the hotels proprietors Owen and Sarah Boyle were presented with an "Outstanding Service Gold Medal Award"
New Appointment at the New County Hotel and Opus One Restaurant
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jalal Al Ibrahimi to the position of General Manager at the New County Hotel and Opus One Restaurant. From 2003 - 2010 Jalal worked in Murrayshall House Hotel, Scone, as Duty Manager and Wedding Planner and has returned to Perthshire after spells at the Macdonald Pittodrie House Hotel, Inverurie and new Drumossie Hotel, Inverness.
"The New County Hotel and Opus One Restaurant already enjoy high reputations for quality, service and value," he commented. "I'm looking forward to working with owners Owen and Sarah Boyle to further improve and extend their offerings and am very excited about this new challenge."
In his free time, mountain climber Jalal has undertaken several challenges for charity, climbing one of the Atlas Mountains in his native Morocco and the 19,360 ft Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, as well as several munros. We are pleased to have attracted someone of Jalal's calibre to the New County, Opus One Restaurant, Gavin's Bistro and Cafe 22. His experience of managing high quality restaurants as well as his great knowledge of Perthshire will stand him in good stead in his new position.
OPUS ONE WINS 'URBAN RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2010'
We are delighted to announce that Opus One Restaurant has won the 'Urban Restaurant of the Year' category at the Scottish Restaurant Awards on Mon 22nd Feb at the Corn Exchange, Edinburgh.
We also have been nominated as finalists in 3 categories for the SCOTTISH HOTEL AWARDS in April. The categories are - 'Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year', 'Rising Star Chef of the Year' and 'Turnaround achievement Award'.
Opus One restaurant wins star billing in hotel awards
Less than 10 months after it opened, Opus One at the New County Hotel in Perth has been voted Scotland’s ‘Rising Star of the Year’ restaurant.
And amid a flurry of other awards for the hotel, Head Chef Ryan Young won a Gold Medaille d’Or at the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards presented at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.
The 23-bedroom New County also gained no fewer than five runners-up spots in the rival Hotel Review Awards - Hotel Restaurant of the Year, Small City Hotel, Turnaround Hotel, ‘Rising Star- Medium Hotel’ and Lunch Excellence.
Owner Owen Boyle said national recognition for the fine dining restaurant, opened only last May, was “a magnificent achievement for so recent an endeavour. Opus One is already firmly established as one of the top restaurants in Scotland.”
The accolades come hot on the heels of a series of glowing reviews of the restaurant. Writing in the Sunday Herald in January, leading food critic Joanna Blythman described its food as ‘inspired’ and providing ‘remarkable value’, and gave it one of her highest ever ratings.
Opus One has also received two AA Rosettes for its food, an EatScotland Silver Award and a Platinum Plate Award from hotelreviewscotland.
Owen and wife Sarah were joined at the spectacular Glasgow awards ceremony by New County Manager Alan Berwick and wife Duty Manager Jennifer, Head Chef Ryan Young, sous-chef David Cochrane and Restaurant Manager George Millar.
“We have an extremely talented team in our kitchen and throughout the hotel,” Boyle added. “These awards are a tribute to their hard work, dedication, talents and inspiration. We are all looking forward to building on these successes to make Opus One an even greater fine dining experience.”
