At the annual Scottish Hotel Awards, the "Oscars" of the profession, "The New County Hotel and Opus One Restaurant" carried off the Gold Laurel National Award for modern fine dining.The hotels proprietors Owen and Sarah Boyle were presented with an "Outstanding Service Gold Medal Award". Julie Redpath of FM Services wrote; Serving a fantastic array of food Gavins Bistro has a lovely atmosphere with warm welcoming, very efficient and friendly staff. Offering a great variety of food, from morning cuppa with scones, toast and muffins to a reasonably priced lunch or dinner.
Meal deals are frequently on offer, with a two course meal priced at £9.95 and chefs specials offered every day. The sandwiches come highly recommended, especially the steak, red onion and Dijon mustard ciabatta.

Opus One restaurant wins star billing in hotel awards

Less than 10 months after it opened, Opus One at the New County Hotel in Perth has been voted Scotland’s ‘Rising Star of the Year’ restaurant.

And amid a flurry of other awards for the hotel, Head Chef Ryan Young won a Gold Medaille d’Or at the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards presented at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.

The 23-bedroom New County also gained no fewer than five runners-up spots in the rival Hotel Review Awards - Hotel Restaurant of the Year, Small City Hotel, Turnaround Hotel, ‘Rising Star- Medium Hotel’ and Lunch Excellence.

Owner Owen Boyle said national recognition for the fine dining restaurant, opened only last May, was “a magnificent achievement for so recent an endeavour. Opus One is already firmly established as one of the top restaurants in Scotland.”

The accolades come hot on the heels of a series of glowing reviews of the restaurant. Writing in the Sunday Herald in January, leading food critic Joanna Blythman described its food as ‘inspired’ and providing ‘remarkable value’, and gave it one of her highest ever ratings.

Opus One has also received two AA Rosettes for its food, an EatScotland Silver Award and a Platinum Plate Award from hotelreviewscotland.

Owen and wife Sarah were joined at the spectacular Glasgow awards ceremony by New County Manager Alan Berwick and wife Duty Manager Jennifer, Head Chef Ryan Young, sous-chef David Cochrane and Restaurant Manager George Millar.

“We have an extremely talented team in our kitchen and throughout the hotel,” Boyle added. “These awards are a tribute to their hard work, dedication, talents and inspiration. We are all looking forward to building on these successes to make Opus One an even greater fine dining experience.”

We are pleased to announce the opening in May ‘08, of our new fine dining restaurant, Opus One at the New County.  Serving fresh local produce, by Head Chef Ryan Young. Our restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.  Booking advisable.

Alternatively, you can enjoy a gastropub experience in our Bar/Bistro,  open for lunch and evening meals serving fresh local produce.
